Royal Berkshire Hospital

Building Management System Upgrade

Project Overview

BMSHarley was appointed to deliver a Building Management System (BMS) upgrade at Royal Berkshire Hospital, modernising critical controls infrastructure to improve reliability, system performance and long-term maintainability. The project formed part of the Trust’s ongoing investment in enhancing building services across the hospital estate.

The Challenge

Working within a live hospital environment required careful planning to ensure essential building services remained operational throughout the upgrade. Existing BMS equipment had become outdated, making future maintenance and system support increasingly challenging while maintaining uninterrupted operation was critical.

Our Solution

Our engineers replaced legacy BMS equipment with the latest Trend technology, upgraded supervisory systems, recommissioned control strategies and carried out comprehensive testing and validation. Working closely with the Trust’s estates team, we carefully phased the works to minimise disruption while ensuring a seamless transition to the new controls platform.

The Outcome

The completed upgrade has delivered a modern, resilient and fully supported BMS, providing improved system visibility, enhanced operational performance and a platform for future expansion. The upgraded controls infrastructure also supports greater energy efficiency while maintaining a comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors.
